Subject: horace collins of HBO

horace collins, senior VP and asst. general counsel of HBO died wednesday
in his manhattan home.  he was 44.  robert del deo, his companions, said
it was from complications from aids.

in addition to working for HBO since 1979, he was active in the Los
Angeles Alliance Against Defamation and a board member for LA Gay and
Lesbian Community Service Center.

Subject: Former senator Hugh Scott

        FALLS CHURCH, Va - Hugh Scott who served 36 years in congress
and led the Republican minority in the Senate through the torment of
the Watergate years, is dead at 93. Scott, who served in the Navy
during World War II, will be buried with honors in Arlington National
Cemetery. A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday. Scott represented
the Reading area of Pennsylvania in the house for 18 years, beginning
in 1940, and was a senator from the state for htree terms until he retired
in 1977. "He died peacefully in his sleep," said his longtime secretary
Janet Horgan. Scott's death in a retirement home here on Thursday was
attributed to cardiac arrest.

The late senator will always be remembered fondly in my family for one
of his final performances on behalf of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
In 1976, when Reagan made his first run for president, he announced the
_other_ Pennsylvania senator, Schweiker?, a liberal Republican, was to
be his running mate--and this was before the primaries were even over.

Come the actual convention, Senator Scott ringingly announced that our
state's votes were for Gerald Ford.
