I'm talking about the actress Traylor Howard. I think she stinks and wish that they had never replaced Sharona (Bitty Schram). Howard doesn't have anything going for her as an actress. Just dull and blah. I see so many talented comediennes today; it make you wonder why they chose her.

I'm not crazy about her, but I don't blame the actress; the whole show went downhill about the time she joined. I like her daughter better than I did Sharona's son.

Nah, she sucks.
Ian (The show actually went into the crapper before Sharona left (or was, more likely, fired - I'd like to get the real story on what happened here, as I'm pretty sure Bitty Schram got a raw deal...), but Traylor Howard is as annoying as s***, and always has been.)

I "liked" them both.
I think the produces "tarted" up Sharona a little bit too much. But I enjoyed her "edge."
I don't get cable (or sat.) so I bought the first 5 seasons and watch the shows in semi-random order.
"Natilie" has a background that permitted a much wider range of plots (her family is RICH -- in the past, many popular fictional detectives had an independent income and one or two were quite rich.)
It might be fun to bring back Sharona and let her and Natilie get into a catfight!
I have only seen part of one episode of the current season. I find myself wondering about how Monk is working around the death of Dr. Kroger.

Sharona was more of a prototypical nurse. Natalie is more of a friend and partner, even taking the lead on a few cases, which has changed the dynamics of the show. The writers also made Monk more unintentionally cruel, which has made Natalie sympathetic. I don't remember Sharona being sympathetic at all.

The episode where Monk faked his death was the perfect opportunity to bring her back. I guess the actress isn't interested.

I think I read at the time that she left under a contract dispute. She simply wanted more money than they were willing to pay so she walked.

I like both actresses, but the Natalie character is far better than the Sharona character.
>The writers also made Monk more unintentionally cruel,
The reason the show has gone down hill is that they changed the Monk character from a focus around his mental illness disrupting (but not preventing) his life into a focus on pratfalls and 'gimmick of the week' phobias. Monk is a lot closer to The Pink Panther at this point than he is a person living with a mental illness.

I'd bet on the money, myself. The "change direction" excuse is usually used when they don't want to talk about contract disputes. I also remember reading at the time that the actors playing the policemen also held out. If they hadn't come to terms, I'm sure we'd see a "change of direction" where they were concerned too.

Sure. Which could have been character and/or actress. "Who is the easiest to replace?"
I'd have said Disher. Stottlemeyer would be almost impossible; the audience isn't gonna buy another old cop buddy of Monk's taking over homicide that would put up with him. But hire a new nurse? Sure.

I'm new to Monk. Did they ever find his wife's killer?

They can't even find a consistent back story for her.

No, and he keeps forgetting to try.

Yeah she was made an example because she called in sick ,held up production and didn't know her lines. Get over it, Monk is entering it's eighth and final season being USA's #1 show. Traylor has been on the show longer than Bitty and was a tremendous casting choice for the show. The show could have easily been destroyed by the producers decision to draw a line on the sand and yet it thrived. tHE HSOW HAD GUEST STARS MOST SHOWS WOULD KILL TO GET ON THE SMALL CREEN Kudos to the show and the cast for giving us 8 great years in Monkland
I realise the show has has had some subpar epsiodes but even at it's worst it was always entertaining.

Oooh. Someone attempting to start a rumor and talk trash!
We've heard plenty of rumors of cast demands for higher wages during that season. No one, but no one, stated that Bitty Schram ever showed up on set unprepared to work. She wasn't trying to give producers a valid reason to replace her!
